About Us

Our Mission

Helping Hands is a Christian organization providing food, emergency financial assistance, and basic life skills education to community members in need.

Our Vision

Our vision is to enhance the quality of life for all people within the greater High Point community.

OUR SERVICES

We serve individuals in crisis by meeting their most immediate needs. For some that includes a box of food weekly.

Leadership

The Helping Hands Story

In 1994, a kind hearted person with ties to a food pantry left food at the doorstep of a local pastor whose child was receiving cancer treatments. That kindness and much needed assistance planted a seed. A year and a half later, the pastor's church created a food closet.  Before long, church members suggested the church should apply for a partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank.

From our early days affiliation with Lighthouse Assemblies of God and Grace Church to becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Helping Hands High Point has grown into the largest food pantry in the area.

As a non-profit, we depend entirely on the generosity and support of our community, foundations, and corporations who believe in our goals and are willing to help fund our programs. We feed neighbors in need, provide emergency financial assistance, and offer volunteer opportunities.

Our Journey in Numbers

1995

Lighthouse Assemblies of God Church, on Dorothy Street in High Point, established a food closet to serve families in need.

1998

Lighthouse Assembly of God merged with Grace Church. The food ministry came under the cover of Grace and moved to Montlieu Ave. The food pantry was officially named Helping Hands.

2007

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC named Helping Hands Agency Of The Year. The pantry was also recognized as the largest food pantry in the city of High Point. The pantry outgrew it's facility and was limited by what one church could give.

2010

Helping Hands became Incorporated as a separate non-profit entity and moved to the upper-level of 2301 South Main Street.

2025

Celebrating 30 years, Helping Hands is expanding our capacity to serve the greater High Point area. The pantry added three new employees to the small staff. We also acquired property surrounding the existing office through a purchase of 2315 S. Main Street.
